Alan Wake is an action-adventure game developed by Remedy Entertainment. The story follows best-selling thriller novelist Alan Wake as he tries to uncover the mystery behind his wife's disappearance during a vacation in the small fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington, all while experiencing events from the plot in his latest novel, which he cannot remember writing, coming to life.
Microsoft Game Studios published the game for the Xbox 360 in May 2010, followed by a Windows port released by Remedy Entertainment in February 2012. Our involvement in the current, and highly detailed, remaster of this hugely popular IP, was to produce the compositing across most of the cut-scenes and cinematics throughout the game.
Working in close collaboration with our client D3T, we used their rendered scenes as outputs from the game and then added grade and VFX throughout. The attention to detail is incredible, matching the original game VFX as closely as possible but with upgraded scale and enhancements where relevant.
Due to the huge popularity of this title, there was no room for error, with detail in every shot being paramount, we had to ensure that the closest scrutiny would pass the client & fan test!
